Statement of Intent (Final Draft)

Statement of Intent, Kate Donnelly  Weald of Kent Grammar School Candidate number: 5047  For my music-video I plan to use media language to create a pop music video that presents a fun upbeat video yet reflects beauty standards that are placed on women as well as a reflection of relationships and respect within them. I’ll use this to target the 16-25 demographic as stated in my brief as well as my “perfect audience member” that can range anything from the C2 to AB class. I will create a video that has a representation that is something relatable to both my audience member and anyone who views it. By using my intertextual reference of Gene Kelly’s “mop dance” in the last section of my video I aim to interpret an idea of fantasy and romanticising of relationships that aren’t respectful or healthy. Regardless of whether the reference is understood by the audience it is a part of pop culture and will translate to a younger audience within the context of my video...

Location planning

Locations shots and planning: Hildenborough Village hall , the use of the hall was to have a large space in which I could record multiple different elements of my video. The stage and backdrop is also perfect for my prom scene and I had it in mind when I was choosing the narrative of my video. Church road wall, the wall allows to have a large outdoor space with a flat backdrop that means I can have a studio like setup with the right cropping and angles. Furthermore it allowed the contrasting location required in order to fit my brief

Statement of Intent - final

For my music video I aim to use media language to create a pop music video experience that is upbeat fun and engaging as well as including representations that reflect the unrealistic standards of beauty placed on women in society through the male gaze and the media. I plan to target the 16-25 demographic as stated in the brief, this includes my “perfect audience member” that, in terms of class, can range anything from the C2 to AB. The representations I plan on using should be relatable to both my audience member, who is typically female, and anyone that views it. I will use the narrative in the video to promote my artist “Matthew Moore” and spread a message of positivity, encouraging others to view the video and spread the message further. To achieve this I will use mise-en-scene to reflect the damage holding women to unrealistic standards has upon their self-esteem and self-image. The performers and characters in the video will be dressed in bright colours and outfits that make ...
