copyright permission
In order to access and use my chosen song I am required to ask for the rights to the song, in order to do this I sent an email to Sony records uk, the parent label to Columbia records where my chosen artist, Calvin Harris, is signed.
Here's a transcript of the email I sent to Sony music:
Dear sir/madam
I am writing in regards to the copyright of the song “The Girls” by Calvin Harris. I will potentially be using this song in my coursework for my A Level media studies pending your permission.
For our coursework task in our ocr a level media studies we are required to film direct edit and produce a popular music video for the 16-25 demographic. I chose “The Girls” because of its cultural significance, dance beat, conventional lyric style and infectious pop sound, all characteristics of a fantastic pop song and music video.
In order to use “The Girls” I will need permission from Columbia Records because of the copyright. The music video will only be accessed by Weald of Kent school and the OCR exam board to assess and grade my work accordingly. Permission to use the song would be extremely appreciated
Thank you for your time.
Kind regards,
Kate Donnelly
